WASHINGTON, D.C. – Thomas J. Gibson, president and CEO of the American Iron and Steel Institute, had the following comment in response to the Senate passing the DRIVE Act, the surface transportation reauthorization bill, today 65-34:
“We commend the Senate’s passage of the DRIVE Act, which is an important step in the process toward a long-term surface transportation bill. In order for domestic manufacturing industries, like steel, to remain internationally competitive, we need a well-maintained transportation system to move raw materials and products. The steel industry is both a heavy user of the U.S. surface transportation system and supplier to transportation projects. We urge leaders in both chambers to continue working together toward a long-term solution to meet our nation’s transportation needs. ”
